Labour inspectors rescued over 3,000 workers from slavery-like conditions last year, with cattle ranching, coffee and charcoal production leading the sectors implicated.
Brazil's Ministry of Labour published its largest-ever update to the lista suja, the public register of employers found using slave labour, adding 248 names spanning agriculture, construction and domestic work.
International buyers screen the list as a sanctions register: listed producers lose access to state credit and face contract termination clauses from coffee and beef exporters.
